Minggu 63

We had mostly normal preparation day activities.  Elder hecked on the work at the church and at noon we took all the young missionaries to a cultural museum for a few hours.  It was really nice.  They were actually closed and doing some work on the front but they let us in with a guide.  It was great being there with no crowds.  I really liked it because it focused on the culture of northern Sumatera.  I took some pictures but everything was behind glass so there are alot of reflections.  Then they watched the movie Ephraim's Rescue in our apartment.
Some childrens games
Batak Nias and Batak Toba are the people we run into the most

The women all carry their children like this until they are probably 3 or 4.
These pictures don't do the colors justice.  They are beautifully done and so colorful.
This were so beautifully colored and bright.  The picture just did not capture it.
I love their Batik fabric.  Different areas of Indonesia have different patterns and colors that they are known for.
This just explains a little about the fabrics and people of North Sumatra.

On Tuesday we went to the church to see how thing were progressing.   We took Elders Hobbs and Zollinger to a scheduled appointment, the person they were scheduled to visit wasn't there so we went looking for a few poeple that we didn't find.  We later learned that he had received a bad electrical shock while trying to unplug his phone from charging.  Spent the early evening at the church and headed home for the night.  We went down stairs and had dinner at the restaurant on the main floor of our apartment.
On Wednesday Elder had a Presidency Meeting.  He has been trying to get the Branch Presidency to meet to go over the needs of the branch the past couple of months.  They got some callings planned, and reviewed the Branch Mission Plan that was put together almost a month ago and now needs to be reviewed with the Branch Council and a copy sent to the Mission President.  After completing our meeting we took Sister Edwards and Mintono and headed to Sister Fransisca which is about a 45 minute drive, because these Sister missionaries have not been in Medan long we decided to show them where Ruf and Fenny live, since we have not seen either of them at church for a few months and because it is on the way up to Fransisca's home (coincidently Fransisca is also Ruf's aunt).  So we stopped at the kost they live in, and we assumed the person who answered the door was one of the kost occupants, she got Fenny to come to the door, and she informed us that Ruf was sick, so after they organized the 8 x 8 foot room they rent in the kost, and invited us in.  The person who had answered the front door also joined us in Ruf's room, and she was introduced as Hotma, Ruf's sister.  Hotma is a member of the branch who until today we had never been able to meet because we did not have a correct address or phone number for her and Ruf never felt comfortable giving it to us because her sister did not want to meet with anyone from the church because of the lifestyle she had chosen.  She is only 19.  Well, she was very happy to visit this afternoon.  Elder took off with Bro. Manalu to go get a couple of Elders, because Ruf wanted a blessing, so that took him a little over an hour. While  he was gone the Sisters and I visited and gave them a brief message.  Hotma got out Ruf's hynm book and wanted to sing.  So she picked a song and we all sang it.  She said that she had missed the church and asked about alot of people.  Hopefully she will decide to start coming again.  The Elders got back and we all finished up what was a very successful visit.  we then headed back to the church, but stopped at a restaurant because all of the missionaries were starved.  We had dinner and then dropped the missionaries off and headed for home.
I went shopping today to start getting things for Thanksgiving dinner.  Elder didn't really want to go so he stayed in the apartment and studied for a couple of hours while I was gone.  We then went to the church and checked out the work on the church.  We talked with the sisters and since we discovered that Ruf had indeed checked into the hospital we went to go visit her there.  We then dropped the sisters off at the church for a teaching appointment, and we headed for home.
On Friday we attended district meeting.  After district meeting we were scheduled to go to the Doctors office to get flu shots, we got there at about 1 PM and they were closed until 4pm so we went to get us some lunch.  We then went to the Church to wait.  Later Elder got a test message from Elder Barlow telling him that we would need to delay the shots because while the Dr. had been paid, he had not received the vaccine which he said he would have.  And they will not have it until sometime in December.  We stayed at the church for a few more hours and headed for home for the night.
First thing Saturday we did house inspections for the Elders and Sisters. We had to visit with the sisters about feeding the cats that frequent their apartment.  While they don't let them in the house unlike the previous sisters, the cat again had a litter of kittens on their front porch, and they put out a cardboard box for them, and have been giving them food.  We will see if they comply with mission rules or not.  That afternoon we had a meeting with our Branch Mission Leader.  After that Elder started working on the Elders door, their security door lock and hardware were broken, so he got hardware to repair it, but was not able to complete repairs, because he needs to make adjustments to the mechanism for the door.  He decided to see if Bro. Manalu could find a lock that will fit the door without modification for the door.  I taught English while Elder worked on the door.  We then called it a night and headed for home.
Sunday after church we had Branch Council and went over the Branch Mission Plan and also went over the Branch Christmas party that is on the 13th.  We can get up to a 100 people at the Christmas Party.  I passed out a calendar with my schedule to the 5 students who will be doing the keyboard course with me so they could mark when they are available. I have gotten one back so far.  I want to start classes next week so we can get them going. We have not gotten the keyboards yet so we will start at the church and go from there.  We got home about 3pm and relaxed.  Sent emails to our 3 missionaries and we watched a few episodes of Who do you think you are? on the computer hooked to the TV.  Sister Jibson goes home on Wednesday.  She has been such a special person and great missionary. What a fireball.  I sure love her.
