Monday we had a normal preparation day except Elder also went to the elder's house to fix the locking mechanism for their security/screen door. Bro. Manalu came by about 2 in the afternoon, with a lock he thought would require less modification than the one Elder bought at Ace. His only cost Rp65k Elder's cost Rp200k, now after having worked with the one he bought, it took just as much modification as the one Elder bought and is about as mechanically sound, at least in Elders opinion. Since it was just going to be him and Elder, he decided to go in his becak because it might be faster than using the car. Not sure why but there was a lot of traffic on the roads and it took them 45 minutes to get to the elder's house, they were stuck in the middle of one trafic jam in the middle of an intersection for about 20 minutes, with at least 15 police officers directing traffic in that one intersection. After getting the door repaired, the trip home was much easier.
On Tuesday Elder's Zollinger & Hobbs asked if we could take them to an appointment in the afternoon, so we headed north, because they wanted to try and locate John Alma. We had tried to locate him several months ago but were unsuccessful. His brother, Nefi had given them some directions on how to find his house, but they discovered that there was no way they were going to locate him with the directions they had. Fortunately Bro. Manalu was close friends with Nefi, John Alma and Imelda (all siblings) growing up. So finally we called Nefi, he said his sepeda motot (motor bike) was broke so he couldn't join us. As we were driving down the road, we happened to see Nefi standing on the side of the road with his bike, so we stopped and he said he got it going, so he led us down the road. But the bike broke again, and we all stopped, turns out all it needed was a master link for the chain. So we went to the nearest place we could find a master link at, and returned and got his bike fixed, and followed him to his brothers home. When John Alma answered the door he let Nefi know he wasn't very happy about being surprised by the visit. But he quickly made the room presentable and invited us in, Nefi returned to his own home. We visited for some time and left a message with John, but it is hard to say how receptive he was because he suffers from severe depression. After that we headed back home for the evening.
On Wednesday Elders scheduled presidency meeting was canceled because President Rico ran out of time because he is preparing to go to Java for some training. We took Sister Edwards and Mintono to go look for Lusiana Purba, we discovered that we now have a correct address, but unfortunately she was not at home when we stopped by. We then went to Fransisca Hutabarat and discovered that she and her family had moved. The neighbors said they did not know where they had moved. So we tried to contact a couple of her nieces, who we know, but were unable to get a new address yet. We will have to work on it another time. We stayed at the church for a while and then called it a night and headed home.
Happy Thanksgiving. We found a place to purchase 6 sheets of plywood to use as a support for the young missionaries beds, so the mattresses don't rest directly on the rungs, making it uncomfortable for those trying to sleep on them. After getting the wood delived by a peddle powered baycak, Elder was able to get the workers doing renovation work at the church to cut them to size, and then loaded them in the car and delivered them to the sisters and elders. Since Elder couldn't fit both the wood and me in the van, he only delivered the wood to the sisters house, and they will have to put them on the beds if they don't want to wait until Elder Tucker can come back with me. We then went to the store to do our shopping so we can prepare Thanksgiving dinner on Monday, for the missionaries.
On Friday right after we left for church we got a phone call from our apartment telling us that they had keyboards for us to pick up so we turned around and picked them us and loaded them into the back of the van for the day. At District Meeting, we had cake for Sister Mintono's birthday, then we all went to lunch at Ayam Wong's. Did some studying in the afternoon and went home early in the evening.
On Saturday we met with the Elders at the church and then Elder took Elder"s Barlow and Hendro and went to Rotolink looking for 3 bikes for the elders (one of the 4 that they have is still serviceable). They got the bikes purchased and headed back to the church for English, and then Elder had a meeting with Pres. Kusamarmanto. We were all going to go for pizza with Pres & Sister Kusamarmanto but the north elders were waiting for an appointment that was delayed, and we needed to get the three bikes picked up at 8. So the south elders, Pres & Sister Kusamarmanto, Elder Tucker & I went to the bike shop, the two elders and Elder Tucker rode the bikes to the Pizza Hut on Gajah Mada. The sisters were already there, but because of one way roads, they beat our car there. The north elders finally got there and finished off the pizza. Then all the young missionaries and Elder rode the bikes home (their homes). And we went in the car to pick up Elder and to then drop off Pres & Sister Kusamarmanto, and we headed home for the evening.
Sunday Sister Kusumarmanto came to Primary with me. I had her help teach lesson. There were some meetings and they were practicing for the Christmas activity. We invited the Kusumarmanto's to our apartment for dinner so they would not have to go buy food. We had a really nice visit with them. Then I made 2 pies for our Thanksgiving dinner with the missionaries tomorrow.
Hope every one had an enjoyable Thanksgiving. Love you all. Hope Jesse, Camry and family made it safely to Brazil. We will sure miss you but will see you in a year.
