So it's Monday, it must be Thanksgiving, at least for us and the other missionaries. I spent the morning getting most of the food prepared and Elder spent his time preparing the Es Buah for Medan missionaries, they got here about 1 pm after going out and working for the morning. The missionaries wanted to view photos that we have of Medan, the also saw a bunch of our family photos on my computer, so we used the TV. Because turkey is so expensive, and because Elder doesn't really care for turkey all that much, we had Steak, along with the more traditional Thanksgiving foods, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, fruit salad, crescent rolls, apple and pumpkin pie, almost all the normal Thanksgiving Holiday foods. Finally about 8pm we sent the missionaries home for the night.
Thanksgiving Dinner at our Apartment
On Tuesday we took Elders Zollinger and Hobbs to see Nidianas Harefa, we had a good visit with them and set a goal for them to come to church at least once a month, which will take helping them with transportation costs. Then visited with the Sarumah family and taught Joki the 10 year old son in the family, dad also joined for the discussion. Finally we had a short visit with Erwin Harefa's children, mom and dad were expected home soon, we saw them as we were leaving to go home. We dropped the elders off at Fadlin's house, so they could try and see how he is doing, and if his parents are back in Medan. The Elders were going to catch an ankot home latter so they could visit with the other passengers. We went to dinner at the Coffee Box below our apartment building.
Wednesday was the last day with the workers finishing up the building project. So we spent most of the time walking through to locate things that were incomplete and that needed to be finished before they quit. In the early evening we went to Brastagi to do our grocery shopping, because we are having breakfast at the apartment for the missionaries prior to having our district meeting at the apartment. Because we met the goal we had set for our district.
Thursday the workers left at 5am. We went to the church and cleaned up a little, then decided to go try and locate a new generator with additional capacity than the currant one we have has. Took us a while but found a Honda with 5,000w usable output. Our old one was very old and didn't even work when we got here last year. Elder Tucker worked on it to get it to work. Still it barely had enough power to run some lights and maybe one A/C unit on a good day. I was supposed to start keyboard lessons with Samuel this afternoon but he didn't show.
We did breakfast with the Missionaries this morning. We had German Pancake, Hash Browns, Sausage (bakso), and cinnamon rolls (without nuts or raisins, just didn't remember to buy any), Elder thought we had way too much food, but when he got up to see what was left, it was completely gone. We then had District Meeting at our apartment. It went well, we ended up using our large living room window as our white board. After our meeting we went with Elders Zollinger and Hobbs to try and see John Alma, but he wasn't home, from there we went to try and visit another of their contacts, she also was not home, but we made contact with one of her neighbors and took the opportunity to share a message about "The Living Christ" in conjunction with the Christmas Season. We then went to another contact and were able to teach the "Restoration" discussion. We stopped by to see if Fadlin was home, but no answer at the door, a few kids out front of their house said that his parents were also living there now. We then headed to the church for my first keyboard lesson with Sari, but as this was her first lesson, we assume she forgot. While we were at the church, there was a group working on preparations for the Christmas program, Samuel was one of them, so we visited about his lesson that he missed, and rescheduled it for Saturday and yes he had forgotten it on Thursday. We then headed home for the night.
We spent the whole day, Saturday, at the church. I started with a keyboard lesson, and then we had a meeting with our BML, Bro Pardede is little by little improving in his functioning as our BML. We then taught English Class, because it was a holiday today (someone's new year, Elder thinks) we didn't have as many in class. After English Sister Tucker had one more keyboard lesson, She has gotten 2 signed contracts so we can drop off keyboards at their homes this next week so they can have additional practice time. We then stayed at the building and visited with those who were there to prepare for the Christmas Program, and those who were just hanging around for the evening.
Sunday I actually had 6 children in Primary and I actually had a teacher come and teach the lesson. So nice not to have to try and do it all my self and for the children to, I am sure, get more out of the lesson. We had 3 investigators and 2 whose parents are inactive members, Harefa's who we had visited Tuesday. And of course Mula who is our drivers son and is almost always there. We also had about 63 at Sacrement meeting which is an improvement and 8-10 investigators. After Church I did another keyboard lesson and Did a brief overview for Chaterine and Dearly since they are busy with the Christmas program. We will start their lessons next week after the program. Then we had practices for the Christmas party on Saturday. Elder Tucker and I both have parts in the short drama and also Primary may sing a song and the Relief Society is also singing a song. I also am in charge of getting all of the goodies for santa to give out to the kids. Last year we had about 100 people attend the party.
This week our youngest Son and his family moved to Brazil for 18 to 24 months. We love you guys. Enjoy your time there.
In the airport getting ready to leave. Brave people, 4 kids ages 5 and under.
