Today we did preparation day activities, relaxed and watched the Saturday afternoon Session of General Conference in English, and downloaded the other sessions. Elder got a text from Novita saying that she was in the hospital, asked the Elders if they could stop by and give her a blessing. The Doctors say that she has Typhus. Pres. Yosep told Elder yesterday that she got an email telling her she is scheduled to start her new job on 30 April, but she hasn't said where, but sounds like it may not be in Solo after all. We spent the rest of the day doing some family history.
We had District Meeting today, but Elder got a text from Novita that she was still in the hospital and wanted us to come talk to her so instead of going to our meeting we went to the hospital to see her. We ended up getting there after 11, and visited for almost 2 hours. She does have Typhus, but she says her stomach hurts a lot and doesn't want to eat. After visiting with her, we got the rest of the story. After we had visited, we think we have a much better understanding about her stomach pain. After she and Elder had visited the last time
about the various job offers she has received from the government, she went home and wrote the email saying she was not interested in the jobs outside Indonesia, but she was unable to get it to send over the internet, the next day she received an email with a ticket to travel to go take the test, so she felt obligated to go, she said she passed the test, but accepting the job required here father to sign a letter saying she could leave the country, even though he had encouraged her to take the job he was unwilling to sign the letter, so that made any further decisions easy for her. She has been attending training somewhere about 100 kilometers out of town, her training supervisor instructed her that she needed to tell the government that she (the instructor) was paying more for some labor, necessary for the training, than she was actually paying, and Novita said she was unwilling to do that, so it created some tensions with her and the supervisor. During this same time she has been trying to care for a very ill grandmother, and a brother. So after we visited we talked about all the stress she was experiencing and the upcoming changes, and she admitted that it was causing her a lot of stress, which is why we think in addition to the Typhus, her stomach is so upset. So we talked about some things she can do to help alleviate the stress. In the mid afternoon went to the church for awhile, then did our shopping and called it an evening and headed for home.
Today every time we looked out the window of our apartment on the streets below, we could see that traffic was basically at a standstill and we also got a text some time after he was scheduled to be at our apartment that Bro Manalu was stuck in traffic, so we went back up to our apartment and texted him to go ahead and just head back home, shortly after going up to the apartment we got a text saying he was here. So we headed down stairs, and asked how long he thought it would take to get to the church from our apartment. He thought it would be at least an hour, so because we didn't have any scheduled appointments, and all the traffic, we decided to send him back home and we would do what we could from our apartment. We watched the Sunday Morning Session of Conference, and worked on various things. Pres. Donald responded to the email he requested with the list of things in our apartment that we had charged the mission. So when we leave we know what to do with everything since we won't be replaced. Pres. Yosep and family stopped by for awhile to give us money for the temple trip in June and to visit alittle.
On Thursday we spent the afternoon at the church and then Harto came to the church at 5 so we could start going through the workshop for PEF. Harto still really wants to go on a mission, and he realizes that if he goes to school using a PEF loan he will be too old to serve a mission by the time he is able to have the loan paid back but at this time his mom doesn't want him to go and he works to help support his mom because it is just the two of them. She is not a member.
Friday we got a call from Elder Kyle and Kelulthota this morning, asking if we could go with them to see a gentelman they had met in town, he had lived in Utah for about 5 years working and going to school. They wanted to make a follow up visit, so we picked them up at 10:30. He lived a good distance out of town (Sunggual area) we got there at a little before 12:00, ate lunch with him and then were able to visit with him a little more about the church. While it was a pleasant visit he was not really interested in learning about the church. We ended up returning to town by a different way, which made it a little more scenic travel back to the church. In the afternoon we took Sister Hasibuan and Mintono to go see the two Herafa families.

On Saturday we got to church and all set up for the conference rebroadcast , Pres Yosep and family arrived about a half hour before we were scheduled to start. We expected him to do so , but it is still good to see him there willing to help get set up. Elder Kyle got a telephone call from Radius Telaumbanua, saying he was taking his wife to the hospital,(here they go to the hospital like we would go to urgent care or the clinic) as she wasn't feeling well, and that they would be home about 1 in the afternoon. So Elders Kyle & Keluthota, asked if Elder could go with them to see them, so Elder suggested they also see if Pres Yosep would like to come. So Bro. Manalu drove them to their home, where they visited for about an hour trying to understand what was going on. The Dr. they saw didn't know what was wrong, but suggested that she see a heart specialist or as she is expecting as he put it a baby Dr. After visiting about getting them signed up for the National Health Insurance, we settled on taking her to the hospital the Dr. had suggested, but they couldn't remember where he said they should go, so Pres Yosep and Radius went on the motorbike to ask the Dr. where it was he thought they should go. They gave her a blessing and got everyone in the car, to go to the hospital. While they were gone we started watching the next session of conference and the power went out. Well there are only three keys to the new generator which is locked up outside, so I sent Elder a text letting him know that the power was out. We waited for over an hour with no A/C or power. Then the power came back on so we got everything set up and I sent Elder a text letting him know it was back on. After about a half hour or so the power went out again. So I sent Elder another text. They got back to the church about an hour later. Elder started the generator and took advantage of the time to show Elder Wills how to use the generator, then all they have to do is get a set of keys available for them to be able to use. Pres. Yosep and Elder went back to the hospital, on the way they stopped to buy a few things for them so they had food available to eat. Elder is convinced they just haven't been eating well, because of the lack of income, and with her being pregnant it has caused her some problems. Well got them back home and settled in and they headed back to the church. We then watched Priesthood and the Womens broadcast at the same time. So after thinking about today's activities, Elder thought about Brigham's conference address about the stranded handcart companies, that instead of listening to conference talks it was more important to be about the Lords work helping those who were in need of assistance at the time they needed the assistance. As Elder says his experience was on a much smaller scale, but for this sister the consequences were still very real and concerning to her. It was also a wonderful opportunity to help them establish a relationship with Pres. Yosep, and rely less on missionaries.
Today we watched to rest of conference. I watched all of it today in English so I could actually understand it and take notes. After conference the seminary and institute age youth worked on a song they will sing next sunday. (Come thou fount of every blessing) They will be singing it in English so I helps some of them with the pronounciation of words and accompanied a little bit with the simplified version. We had temple prep class again tonight at our apartment.
