Early this afternoon we made arrangements to pick Sari up and go to Columbia Aisa to see if they had the Flu shot she needs to get, an hour and a half there and back and almost no time at the hospital, still they don't have the vaccine. After dropping Sari off we went to the Elders home to pick up their old fridge, so Elder can see if it will still function, and give it to Pres. Yosep. We spent the rest of the day doing laundry and relaxing in our apartment.
On Tuesday morning we had breakfast and DDM at our apartment, so we had a couple of elders bring the fridge up to the apartment so we could check it out and do a little maintenance. After DDM and making sure it was in working order we took it back down to the vehicle. When Bro Manalu got there we went to take the fridge to Bro Yosep. The reason we gave it to him is that, he and Elder were visiting the other day, and he explained that the owners of the business he works for reneged on a promise they made to him, to provide furnishings for his home. So it is making him question his decision to move to Medan, so Elder thought we would do what we could do to help him be motivated to stay. We also figured out a way to get him a washing machine and oven when we return home.
Elder noticed water was draining off the roof where the water tank sits, so he was concerned that the tank might be leaking again, so he went up to check it out and discovered that there was a pool of about 500 gallons of water standing on that section of the roof because when the workers were here to refurbish some of the roofing the left the small pieces of wood up on the roof. Well after enough time passed the rains caused the wood to float over to the three quarter inch drain hole and restrict the water flow. So there was enough water to keep it flowing off the roof almost constantly. So after Elder crawled through the water so he could get it unstopped and start flowing off the roof the way it should, he also got much of that which had collected to flow off the roof also.
On Thursday morning Elder Haws & Wills had a bike accident. An angkot kept moving over and forced them off the road, so Elder Haws thought it would be less painful to take out his companion instead of taking on the angkot. So Elder Wills got a little road rash on his elbow and knee, and Elder Haws rolled his ankle pretty good, it was quite swollen. We went out visiting with them that afternoon and evening. Our first visit was to go see Bona, we weren't sure how much attention we would attract as we approached the house, and actually we did pretty good, but because they had us stand on the porch while they swept and cleaned up a little, there were about 12 or so kids gathered outside while we waited to go in, but these were much quieter than they were the last time we were there. Bona expressed a desire to be baptized in the middle of June. We then tried to locate a members address, no one in the neighborhood knew him or wouldn't admit it. So we asked Nefi if he knew him as it was only a couple of doors down from where Nefi's parents had lived. And sure enough we discovered that he had returned to Nias. On our way to go visit with the Mendrofa family we stopped to buy the elders some surgical masks as Bro Mendrofa has TB. As we were leaving we saw Usman taking his mother to work, I assume. We thought we would take the elders to dinner at the place she worked, and see if we could run into an old investigator that also works there. There are about 15 venders to choose meals from, but we thought we should try the one Sister Mendrofa works with. The elders and I tried their duck, and it was pretty good tasting dinner, but there ducks are pretty small, and you only get a small part. Then we headed further north and visited the Nidianus and Erwin Harafa families. So at least the new Elders know how to find their homes and can make periodic visits after we leave.
On Friday Elder didn't feel great so we decided to stay home for the day.
On Saturday we cleaned the building. That evening Elder was showing President Yosep some of the maintenance things he needed to try and take care of on a regular basis, or get someone to check on them occasionally. While doing so he managed to step in a place on the roof where he should not have and and he managed to put a hole in the roof by falling through it, but was stopped from falling further by the structure below. Boy was it a loud noise. It got everyones attention. So they put some wood and plastic up to keep water from leaking into the building. All they have to do now is make arrangements to get the roof repaired. We were at the church late helping Young adults with their PEF renewals and new applictations. We got them all done and submitted.
After church today we went to the airport and flew to Jakarta. We will spend the night at the mission home and then fly to Bali in the morning with President and Sister Donald and the Mitchells (the new humanitarian and welfare couple) for our Mission Senior couples conference.
